About the role

This is a full-time, in-person, essential position within the Division of Facilities Management (DFM) South District. The role involves maintaining all facility systems in a thorough, journeyman-like manner, performing routine and preventative maintenance, and repairing systems and components to uphold facility functions and a therapeutic environment. Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.

Facilities served include:

  • Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP)
  • Pueblo Regional Center (PRC)
  • Department of Corrections (DOC) facilities
  • Division of Youth Services (Zeb Pike, Spring Creek, and Pueblo Youth Services Center)
  • Veteran’s Community Living Centers in the Southern District, as needed

Responsibilities

  • Perform general routine maintenance functions across Southern District facilities.
  • Respond to work requests phoned into the maintenance dispatch desk during normal operating and after-hours.
  • Inspect facilities and generate work orders for repairs, including but not limited to:
    • Burnt-out lights
    • Leaking faucets
    • Loose hinges
    • Damage caused by patients and staff
  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, adjust, and make minor repairs to various types of locks (penal, residential, and commercial).
  • Clear clogged sanitary lines using appropriate equipment, including unplugging stools, urinals, sinks, floor drains, and main sewer lines.
  • Repair residential, institutional, and penal fixtures, such as dripping faucets, running water closets, and urinals, including replacement of washers, seats, traps, valves, supply lines, P-traps, handles, diaphragms, vacuum breakers, and molded disks.
  • Perform electrical repairs, including replacing ballasts, lights, light fixtures, and switches.
  • Secure and repair damaged windows caused by patients.
  • Adjust door hinges and closures to ensure proper function.
  • Repair damage to facility finishes and systems, including walls, ceilings, roofs, floors, and accentuated systems.
  • Replace flooring materials and coverings, including floor tile, sheet goods, wall base, and accessories.
  • Repair cabinets, countertops, and millwork hardware.
  • Apply paint to walls, surfaces, doors, casings, caseworks, gym floors, mechanical rooms, handrails, bollards, and perform parking lot striping using spraying, brushing, or rolling techniques.
  • Perform routine and scheduled snow removal and apply ice melt as needed.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard of excellence.
  • Assist other trades as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Call Back: Eligible nonexempt employees may be required to report to work before or after a scheduled shift. Employees are entitled to a minimum of two hours of regular base pay (call back pay) or pay for actual time spent responding to the call, whichever is greater. Call back time counts as work time.

Requirements

  • Four years of building maintenance experience related to this position, including general maintenance and repairs in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and general locksmithing.
  • A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience totaling four years may substitute for the required experience. Proof of education or apprenticeship must be attached to the job application.
  • Must be a Colorado resident at the time of application and maintain residency throughout employment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, non-restricted Colorado driver’s license. Out-of-state license holders must obtain a Colorado license within 30 days of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a full pre-employment criminal background check, including a Motor Vehicle Check. Felony convictions, crimes of moral turpitude, or misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify applicants.
  • Must be willing to submit to and pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test and receive an annual influenza vaccination (or provide a medical or religious exemption).
  • Must be available to respond in person to after-hours calls for essential or emergency services without delay or interruption.
  • Must be able to work various hours, including outside normal business hours, for coverage, weather-related issues, and emergency services.
  • Exposure to hazardous materials, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock, and working in high or exposed places.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose this information on the application and explain why it should not disqualify them from the current position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant years of State experience.
  • Ability to work with and train others on advanced card access reader systems.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and Google applications.
  • Knowledge of tools used in this occupation (e.g., voltage meters, tube benders, pipe cutters, handheld snakes).
  • Knowledge of technology used in this occupation (e.g., electronic locks, appliances).
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials, protective clothing, and storage.
  • Strong oral communication, comprehension, active listening, critical thinking, reading comprehension, coordination, judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer service skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work, and process information (compiling, categorizing, tabulating, auditing, or verifying data).
  • Manual dexterity and ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
  • Experience working with Maximo.
