Building Maintenance Electricians

About the role

The Building Maintenance Electrician is a full-time, on-site role located in Clarkston, MI, supporting the safe and reliable operation of university facilities.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in campus buildings.
• Perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on circuits, panels, lighting, and related components.
• Document work performed and ensure compliance with applicable codes and safety standards.
• Coordinate with other maintenance and facilities staff, respond to service requests, and support projects that improve building infrastructure and energy efficiency.

Qualifications

• Strong electrical maintenance and electricity knowledge, including working with building power distribution systems and related equipment.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting and maintenance & repair skills for electrical systems, components, and devices.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance on electrical infrastructure to minimize downtime and safety risks.
• Understanding of electrical codes, safety regulations, and best practices for working with energized and de-energized equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Relevant vocational training, apprenticeship, or certification in electrical trades; journeyperson-level credentials are preferred.
• Prior experience in commercial, institutional, or industrial building maintenance environments.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with facilities teams, vendors, and campus partners.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the role, including working at heights, in confined spaces, and lifting moderate loads, with appropriate safety measures.
