About the role

This position oversees and performs complex public works maintenance projects, providing administrative support to a maintenance supervisor, and managing multiple crews.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and schedules maintenance activities to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluates and prioritizes complex work projects; decides on and estimates time, materials, and processes.
  • Develops and writes work orders; assigns priorities, schedules, and coordinates projects; makes field crew assignments and delegates responsibilities.
  • Maintains records and prepares spreadsheets and reports on project activities, equipment maintenance, and cost factors.
  • Coordinates work activities with staff, internal and external customers, contractors, vendors, and the public.
  • Responds to public inquiries; addresses citizen’s questions or complaints; provides information to the public regarding project scope, rules and regulations.
  • Operates and trains others in the safe use of a variety of equipment and tools used in maintenance operations.

Requirements

  • Five years of relevant advanced skilled experience in public works maintenance.
  • Valid Oregon Class A Commercial Driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of methods and practices of public works maintenance, repair, and construction in assigned area(s).
  • Skilled maintenance and equipment operations as applicable to area of assignment.
  • Standards, guidelines, and regulations applicable to area of assignment.
  • Equipment, tools, materials, and supplies used in area of assignment.
  • Public works maintenance safety hazards and standard precautions.
  • Safe and effective operating practices of light and heavy equipment used in assigned area.
  • Computer and applicable computer applications.
  • Ability to perform skilled maintenance work and equipment operations applicable to area of assignment.
  • Organize, lead, train, and review the work of maintenance employees.
  • Prepare written records and reports including complex spreadsheets and other computerized records.
  • Understand, and follow, oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with City employees and the public; establish effective working relationships.
  • Deal effectively with property owners, contractors, crew members, and other employees.
  • Resolve on the job conflicts with the public, co-workers, and contractors.
  • Perform strenuous physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions, frequently in confined spaces and uncomfortable conditions which may include direct contact with raw sewage and heavy lifting.
  • Provide and wear personal protective equipment, as required.
  • Be available and respond for emergency call-back as necessary.
