Job Summary

SAFEbuilt is seeking a Building Inspector to join our team in the Cook County area, IL. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of assignments and provides a supportive environment with a full complement of resources.

Job Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology
  • Ability to interpret codes in the field and provide code compliant solutions
  • Positive interaction with staff, public, contractors, governmental entities, and clientele
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment

Skills/Knowledge

  • ICC Residential and/or Commercial Inspector certification required
  • Additional ICC certifications strongly preferred
  • Inspection experience required
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, crawling, or kneeling to conduct inspections
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 25–50 pounds (e.g., inspection tools, plans, or small equipment)
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans, technical documents, and observe construction details
  • Able to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection
  • Hearing sufficient to communicate with contractors, workers, and the public in noisy environments
  • Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers/tablets for reporting
  • Frequent driving between inspection sites and company locations within a region

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $30-$40/hour
  • This position comes with a company car and fuel coverage
