About the role
The City of Huntsville’s Inspection Department seeks qualified applicants for Building Inspector I & II positions. This is a career opportunity for individuals with a passion for enforcing building codes and ensuring public safety.
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of buildings during construction, alterations, and repairs to ensure compliance with existing code requirements.
- Lead and provide assistance to building inspectors in conducting more complex inspections.
- Ensure compliance with building codes and contractor licensing laws.
- Enforce health, safety, and welfare standards for the public.
Requirements
- High school diploma from a regionally accredited school or GED certificate.
- Experience in building construction or inspection work.
- Licensed as an Alabama Home Builder, Alabama General Contractor, or certified as a Building Inspector through International Code Council.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Qualifications
- Building Inspector I: High school diploma or GED, experience in building construction or inspection work, and a valid driver's license.
- Building Inspector II: Ten years of building construction experience, licensed as an Alabama Home Builder, Alabama General Contractor, or Building Inspector, and a valid driver's license.

Pay
Compensation is based on the number of months of continuous regular full-time service as of October 1st of each year.
