Building Inspection Specialist

About the role

The City of Fort Worth Development Services Inspections Division seeks a Building Inspection Specialist to perform a variety of construction inspection duties including building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, sign, and parkway inspections and verifying zoning compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform building inspections to verify compliance with the adopted codes on the more complex projects within the City of Fort Worth
• Attend construction and pre-construction meetings with developers and permit holders
• Hands-on inspection training in the field with inspectors covering aspects of buildings and energy
• Assist with less complicated inspections when assistance is needed by other inspectors

Requirements

• HS Diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in building construction or a related field
• Four (4) years of experience in building inspection and/or construction related field
• ICC certified as a commercial building inspector (must obtain within six months of employment)
• Valid Driver's License
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate International Code Conference (ICC) certification as an International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) commercial or a residential inspector within six months of employment

Preferred Qualifications

• ICC Commercial Building Certification
• ICC Commercial Energy Inspector certification
• Extensive inspection experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Certificate in Construction related degree

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: HS Diploma/GED, 4 years of experience in building inspection and/or construction related field, ICC certified as a commercial building inspector, valid Driver's License, possession of appropriate ICC certification within six months of employment

• Strong knowledge of building codes and regulations
• Ability to communicate effectively with developers and permit holders
• Proficiency in hands-on inspection techniques
• Ability to assist with less complicated inspections

Pay

Pay Range: $28.62 - $ 35.78/hr. | $59,534 - $74,418 annual compensation

Schedule

Workdays & Hours: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm; Some evening/weekend work required.
