Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, coordinate, implement, and supervise daily and emergency maintenance and repair programs for a Level III Institution.
  • Develop maintenance plans and procedures for buildings, utility services, grounds, installed equipment, etc.
  • Determine requirements, set priorities, obtain required materials and equipment, and assign work.
  • Establish on-call procedures to respond to emergency maintenance and repair calls and ensure the work is promptly and properly performed.
  • Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for the institution.
  • Determine all items requiring periodic preventive maintenance and develop PM checklists for each item.
  • Schedule and follow up to ensure preventive maintenance is completed as required.
  • Develop plans and cost estimates, determine schedules, and obtain required materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Select, orient, and train new employees and inmate trade workers and evaluate their performance.
  • Successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

  • An associate's degree and professional experience directly related to the area of employment.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • A high school diploma and 5 years of professional experience related to the area of employment, one of which must be in a supervisory capacity.
  • Thorough knowledge of trades being supervised.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience in the principles and techniques of facilities maintenance, including plumbing, general construction, electrical, kitchen equipment, and operation of heavy equipment.
