About the role
The primary purpose of this position is to perform work assignments that include custodial duties, assist staff members in performing their duties, and provide support during absences and training. The lead will aid the Building Environmental Services management team on all matters concerning the operational aspects of the Fayetteville State University Housekeeping department. This position also provides on-site leadership to one or more teams of Housekeepers (4-10 employees), which includes: coordinating daily routine and detailed cleaning; monitoring workplace safety and ensuring proper personal protective equipment is utilized.
Responsibilities
- Perform work assignments that include custodial duties, assist staff members in performing their duties, and provide support during absences and training.
- Aid the Building Environmental Services management team on all matters concerning the operational aspects of the Fayetteville State University Housekeeping department.
- Provide on-site leadership to one or more teams of Housekeepers (4-10 employees).
- Coordinate daily routine and detailed cleaning.
- Maintain workplace safety and ensure proper personal protective equipment is utilized.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency, education and/or experience in housekeeping work that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one (1) year of experience.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record, preferably five or more years of driving experience with no more than one minor at fault accident or violation in the past three years.
Qualifications
- Knowledge-Technical: Advises staff of specialized cleaning and maintenance techniques and processes for use in unusual situations or problems. General knowledge of established cleaning procedures and techniques, and special applications required in assigned areas.
- Ability to follow a daily work schedule and observe performance of a small work group and react to situations requiring minor adjustments to routine.
- Dependability/Attendance: Ability to demonstrate dependability, which requires daily attendance. Ability to report to work daily, for a full shift, at an appropriate time. Ability to submit leave request at least 5 days in advance as much as possible.
- Communication: Conveys information clearly, confidently, and with proper tone. Facilitates open communication. Uses discretion and demonstrates sensitivity to confidentiality concerns. Listens effectively and provides appropriate feedback. Should check and respond to emails daily.
- Planning/Organizing: Ability to plan the daily work schedule of the staff by prioritizing the needs of the organization and implementing procedures to ensure that the tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
- Change Management: Ability to plan and implement change initiatives. Ability to support innovation and creativity by encouraging staff to accept and resolve challenges.
- Leading Work Teams: Ability to establish expectations and clear direction to meet goals and objectives of on-going work for a group of employees. Ability to motivate and engage employees through effective communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Intermediate knowledge of institutional or commercial custodial procedures, methods, techniques, and equipment used in a large-scale custodial operation and the ability to train staff to properly do their job function.
- Two to three years of related experience.
