Job Summary

The Boston Fed seeks a Building Engineer (BE/HVAC) to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted operation of critical building systems. Reporting to the Building Engineering HVAC Supervisor, this role involves managing HVAC, refrigeration, fire protection, and emergency generator systems.

Responsibilities

  • Take and evaluate operational readings of utilities and equipment
  • Inspect, test, and make repairs to equipment located throughout the building as assigned
  • Ensure compliance with all policies, standards, and procedures regarding shop operations and equipment repairs
  • Provide input and suggestions to the Building Engineering Supervisor regarding potential improvements or enhancements to systems or equipment
  • Aid in compiling pertinent information on building operating systems to support development of required designs and plans
  • Regularly test, evaluate, and take appropriate action to chemically treat the building's piping distribution system
  • Troubleshoot system issues by interpreting schematics, blueprints, and systems and building diagrams
  • Respond to service requests from Bank departments and tenant firms, as assigned, for all HVAC related issues
  • Track and complete all work orders in a timely manner via the proprietary FedTRAC system
  • Assist other Operations units as needed
  • Respond to off-shift emergency calls as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facility Engineering or a related field
  • Massachusetts HVAC/RE Journeyman's license and EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in large central plant operations
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) a plus
  • Thorough and demonstrable knowledge of all types of mechanical systems, including package units, split systems, chillers, boilers, pumps, VFD’s and BAS Control Systems
  • Experience working within a structured PM program and the ability to read, understand, and interpret schematic drawings
  • Ability to evaluate building systems, evaluate status indicators, and take appropriate action independently without supervision
  • Strong working knowledge of energy management best practices and commitment to professional development in energy management strategies

Qualifications

  • Physical requirements include movement between departments, floors and buildings to perform work, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, lifting and moving equipment weighing 20-50+ pounds, speaking and hearing, tasting and smelling, sitting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, balancing, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights and in environments with wide temperature ranges, working outside and inside, close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception

Benefits

This position does not require direct supervision of others. Total Base Pay range: $85,500.00 - $106,200.00 - $127,400.00 depending on experience.
