About the role
The Building Engineer supports the designated leadership with the daily operations of all building systems. This includes hard surface maintenance and repair, basic carpentry and metal work, operating, maintaining and repairing all facility system equipment associated with HVAC operations and mechanical and electrical systems. The Building Engineer will also respond to customer requests, submit and close work orders as necessary, and perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and performs repairs to buildings, utilities, grounds, and equipment.
- Optimizes the repair and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing equipment and systems.
- Uses and helps provide best practices to troubleshoot and repair equipment and system problems to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
- Maintains continuous operations of equipment by troubleshooting and repairing.
- Provides hands-on training and collaboration to other engineering team members.
- Fosters a work environment that promotes energy conservation and continuous improvement of engineering functions.
- Records all pertinent data in building logbooks and makes appropriate daily entries.
- Conducts utility and equipment tests, recording pertinent data on all equipment in accordance with federal, state, and local codes and requirements.
- Processes administrative paperwork according to departmental policies and procedures.
- Actively functions as a team member, demonstrating commitment to quality of service.
- Complies with ABM Engineering Services and facilities’ policies and procedures, including safety programs.
- Maintains regular attendance in the workplace.
- Provides the highest quality of service to tenants, staff, and visitors at the facility.
- Participates in regular required communication with Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, management, tenants, and other staff.
- Delivers customer service, is willing to work overtime shifts covering tenant events, and thrives in a close team environment.
Requirements
- Experience commensurate with the specific facility for the position of Engineer (5+ years in the position of engineer).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Highest-level relevant state/local license for Stationary Engineer and/or HVAC, plus universal-level refrigerant recovery license (as required).
- Computer skills and building automation systems experience.
- Certification meeting OSHA ACM awareness training requirements (as required).
- Working knowledge of energy conservation; formal training preferred.
