Building Enclosure Consultant / Senior Project Manager

About the role

Intertek's Building and Construction division provides innovative product and project solutions across multiple architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines. As a risk management and quality assurance partner, we ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of new developments, existing assets, and facilities.

Intertek’s Building Science Solutions (BSS) group focuses on building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and field performance testing for new construction and retrofit projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building enclosure consulting, leadership in project teams, client development, and technical contributions to our team.

Responsibilities

• Lead building enclosure commissioning projects and train staff in the BECx process and requirements.
• Provide building enclosure consulting, commissioning, and design/construction phase services for new projects.
• Conduct building enclosure investigations and assessments for existing buildings, including remedial repair designs and construction phase services.
• Prepare proposals for potential new work and assist in meeting profit center financial goals.
• Develop professionally written deliverables, including proposals, technical reports, and design reviews.
• Provide on-the-job training and mentoring to team members.
• Assist in hiring and training new building sciences team members and mentor existing staff.
• Support the department manager in developing business and clients locally and nationally.
• Grow the local BSS office by balancing staff workloads and securing new projects.
• Participate in professional organizations, author papers, attend conferences, and contribute to technical committees.
• Travel up to 25% outside the local area, depending on project load.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Architectural Engineering and 5+ years of experience in Building Enclosure consulting/industry OR 10+ years of experience in Building Enclosure consulting/industry in lieu of a degree.
• Excellent technical understanding of building enclosure systems and construction.
• Experience managing a range of small to large projects.
• Building Enclosure project management experience.
• Ability to perform both office tasks and physical labor (e.g., working from ladders, boom-lifts, scaffolds, swing stages, roofs).
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
• Professional interaction and communication with clients and project teams.
• Ability to travel up to 25% outside the local area.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Preferred Qualifications

• Building enclosure commissioning experience and proficiency.
• Professional registration (e.g., AIA, NCARB, SE, PE) or ability to obtain within one year.
• Field and technical experience with diverse building types and enclosure systems.
• Additional certifications (e.g., CBECxP, CxA+BE, BECxP, REWC, RRC) or ability to obtain within one year.
• Proficiency in computer modeling tools such as THERM, WUFI, EnergyPlus, COMcheck, or similar.
• Experience with building enclosure testing, including functional performance and investigative testing.
• Experience with property/facade condition assessments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, AutoCAD/Revit/BIM/SketchUp.
• Safety training or scaffold certification.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8AM–6PM.
