About the role
The Building Controls Engineering Lead role provides technical leadership, system architecture, and delivery oversight for advanced Building Automation Systems (BAS). This senior-level role is responsible for the design, implementation, commissioning, and lifecycle support of Tridium Niagara-based, vendor-agnostic building controls solutions across complex facilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership, system architecture, and delivery oversight for advanced Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Design, implement, commission, and support Tridium Niagara-based, vendor-agnostic building controls solutions.
- Lead and coordinate a team of controls engineers and specialists, providing technical direction, mentoring, and quality assurance to deliver consistent, high-performance solutions across a diverse federal and commercial portfolio.
- Act as a technical lead on projects, providing guidance to engineers, programmers, and technicians.
- Collaborate with customers, project managers, and subcontractors to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performance smart building systems.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and guidelines (ASHRAE, UFC, etc.).
Requirements
- Senior-level experience (typically 8+ years) in building automation systems engineering for commercial, institutional, or federal facilities.
- Demonstrated expertise with Tridium Niagara (N4) framework and Niagara-compatible platforms (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Schneider, JCI, Distech, or equivalent).
- Proven ability to design open-protocol, interoperable BAS architectures using BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, and IP-based networks.
- Experience leading controls design efforts, including sequences of operation, points lists, drawings, submittals, and system integration.
- Strong commissioning and troubleshooting background for large-scale BAS deployments.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for OT and BAS environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including customer-facing technical presentations.
Skills
- Niagara certification(s) (e.g., N4 Technical Certification).
- Integration experience with energy management, metering, fault detection/diagnostics (FDD), and analytics platforms.
- Exposure to smart building, IoT, and enterprise integration initiatives.
- Prior experience with project lifecycle support from design through operations and sustainment.
- Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and guidelines (ASHRAE, UFC, etc.).
