Responsibilities
- Learns to review construction drawings and related documents of new or remodeled construction for compliance with building codes and reference standards.
- Learns to review field inspection reports.
- Consults with design professionals, contractors, owners, and other officials concerning building plans.
Requirements
- Education: High school graduate.
- Experience, Training, or Skills: Two years of experience in drafting or preparing building construction documents, or in the supervision of building construction.
- Substitute Education for Experience: An associate degree in architecture, engineering, architectural technology, drafting and designing technology, fire science technology, engineering technology, building construction technology, or related field will substitute for the above experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Special Requirements: Must obtain a level I (one) building inspector certification issued by the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction as defined in KRS 198B.090 and 815 KAR 7.070, within two years of employment in this job classification. Must pass one required certification exam within this certification program, within one year. Must complete twelve (12), department approved, Kentucky Inspector Certified Program Continuing Education unit credits per year. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
Qualifications
Must have proficient communication skills, proven abilities to manage multiple projects, conduct effective code research, and demonstrate attention to detail. High level of customer service is also preferred.
