Description
A Building-Based Substitute Teacher is a per diem substitute who commits to working no fewer than 170 school days each year and reports to the assigned school building for the full student day whenever school is in session. Individuals in this role do not receive vacation time and are compensated only for the hours they actually work, as recorded and approved through the district timesheet process.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- NYS teaching certification strongly preferred
- Ability to follow lesson plans, maintain classroom management, and provide instructional support
- Dependability, flexibility, and strong communication skills
- Must complete NYSED fingerprint clearance
Responsibilities
- Follow lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher
- Maintain established classroom routines and expectations
- Supervise and engage students in meaningful learning activities
- Take attendance, maintain order, and uphold school rules and safety standards
- Support general school operations (study halls, lunch duty, arrival/dismissal assistance, etc.)
- Exhibit professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality in all aspects of work
Terms of Employment
- Employment: Per diem with anticipated 170-180 school days per year
- Compensation: $145/day (non-certified), $165/day (certified)
- No health insurance or additional benefits
- Reports to Building Principal
