About the role

Location: Birmingham, AL | Facility: St. Vincent's Hospital | Department: Facilities | Schedule: Day shift, Full-time

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses, repairs, upgrades, and calibrates complex electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic control systems, with the specific ability to write, edit, and debug Siemens and Trane program code with minimal vendor guidance.
  • Conducts scheduled preventive maintenance and diagnostics—including testing damper motors, checking wiring integrity, reviewing control sequences, and replacing faulty sensors—in accordance with hospital and industry standards.
  • Analyzes system requirements, blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to troubleshoot defects, handle overrides, resolve work orders, and ensure compliance with building, code, and safety standards.
  • Performs system checkouts and leads automation system startups and commissioning for new or retrofitted building controls alongside in-house staff, contractors, vendors, and consulting engineers.
  • Provides supervisory leadership to lower-level technicians and contractors, stands in for the Facilities Manager when absent, trains employees on fire and life safety systems, and maintains technical proficiency through continuous self-study.

Requirements

  • One or more of the following:
    • Graduate of trade school
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • And one or more of the following:
    • Relevant License and 3 years’ experience
    • 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of license
    • Other equivalent combination of relevant education or experience
