Building Automation Systems Lead Field Technician - Ashburn, VA
Job Summary
The Lead Field Technician will install building automation systems, coordinate with other installers, support programmers, and communicate with clients and commissioning agents on project progress. They will also provide technical support and leadership for project planning, execution, and closeout.
Essential Functions
Installation and Installation Coordination of BAS / HVAC Controls Systems (30%)
- Direct and monitor subcontractors (onsite and offsite)
- Install and wire BAS controllers and field devices
- Install and terminate low voltage cables
- Organize job sites
- Provide technical information and safety guidance
- Lead installation teams
- Support change order development
- Cutover panels and systems in retrofit projects
- Develop MOPs for site activities
- Contribute to RFI development
Startup, Commissioning and Closeout of BAS / HVAC Controls Systems (40%)
- Assist software lead with pre-functional and functional testing
- Execute troubleshooting of BAS systems
- Participate in commissioning efforts
- Analyze system operation and demonstrate system operation
- Perform QA/QC of BAS and integrated systems
- Provide installation inspections and closeout duties
- Document shop drawings for as-built conditions
Reporting and Communication (20%)
- Project communication and reporting
- Track and document issues
- Communicate with subcontractors, project managers, clients, and commissioning agents
Engineering Support and Business Development (10%)
- Input to project teams on estimating and takeoffs
- Attend project bid walks
- Attend engineering surveys for retrofit projects
- Attend BAS audits and complete related reports and communications
Requirements
Knowledge of HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems and materials
Knowledge of controls wiring, relay logic, and associated materials
Skilled in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
Exceptional organizational skills
Ability to work in a remote environment
Ability to interpret construction drawings and manufacturer's documentation
Ability to follow safety requirements
Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence
Effective communication skills (both oral and written)
Ability to communicate with clients and serve as primary point of contact
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Ability to plan and delegate tasks
Ability to achieve certifications for NFPA70E and / or OSHA training
Ability to maintain jobsites and manage multiple tasks
Physical Demands
- Maintain jobsite organization
- Manipulate, move, and grasp small parts, devices, and tools frequently
- Remain in a stationary position frequently
- Move through various environments (low temperatures, high temperatures, outdoor elements) frequently
- Descend and ascend stairs and ladders frequently
- Operate a lift and obtain/provide a lift certification occasionally
- Position self under or over equipment occasionally
- Move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally
