Building Automation Controls Engineer
What this job involves
This role focuses on supporting building automation systems and HVAC controls supporting JLL's largest aviation client. As a Controls Engineer, you will troubleshoot BAS performance issues, maintain system standards, and ensure optimal building efficiency and uptime. You will work closely with building leadership and engineering teams to resolve complex control system challenges while also serving as a mentor and technical resource for operating engineers developing their foundational controls skills. This position requires a blend of hands-on technical expertise, project coordination, and collaborative problem-solving to maintain critical facilities infrastructure in a dynamic aviation environment.
What your day-to-day will look like
- Lead, train, and support engineering team members to develop controls-related skills and expand team capabilities across the facility.
- Troubleshoot and maintain building automation systems including HVAC equipment such as heat pumps, DOAS units, air handlers, chillers, and boilers.
- Work with field instruments to measure and calibrate temperature, humidity, pressure, flow, and level parameters throughout the campus.
- Support and maintain established system standards and documentation for the building automation system to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Cookordinate and plan work activities for controls projects and maintenance tasks to accomplish operational goals and objectives.
- Understand, maintain, and troubleshoot networks including Ethernet, BACnet, motor control systems, variable frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
- Collaborate with building leadership to optimize building efficiency, minimize downtime, and implement energy management strategies.
- Complete preventive maintenance assignments, work orders, commissioning activities, and system integrations for new facilities systems as assigned.
Required qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED
- 5+ years of experience with building automation systems and controls, including programming, integration, and energy management
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems including heat pumps, DOAS, air handlers, chillers, boilers, and related equipment
- Experience troubleshooting networks such as Ethernet, BACnet, motor control systems, and variable frequency drives
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, walk extensively, and lift parts and tools weighing up to 49 pounds
- Flexibility to work various shifts and alternative work schedules as needed
Preferred qualifications
- Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent work experience in the built environment
- Certification or hands-on experience with Alerton building automation systems
- Strong project management and interpersonal skills with ability to mentor and train technical staff
- Understanding of building efficiency principles, basic design standards, and energy optimization strategies
- Familiarity with IT troubleshooting practices in support of building automation system networks
- Experience with commission activities, startups, and system integration of new facilities systems
COMPENSATION
$37-45/HR US CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED LOCATION: ONSITE DAILY IN NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (RELOCATION ASSISTANCE NOT PROVIDED)
