About the role

This position serves as a Building Attendant for the Cultural Affairs Division within the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. The role provides on-site support for cultural facilities and events, helping ensure spaces are prepared, welcoming, and operating smoothly for programs, rentals, and public activities.

Responsibilities

  • Moves and lifts heavy equipment, tables, chairs, and other objects to prepare for and clean up after events and programs.
  • Locks and unlocks facilities and notifies appropriate authorities in event of emergency.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of assigned facilities.
  • Monitors events and programs and assists as needed.
  • Enforces strict applicable rules and regulations by informing general public participants.
  • Attends work on continuous and regular basis.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, and one year experience in janitorial work that includes public contact, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Florida Drivers License required.

  • Knowledge of general janitorial and maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with coworkers and the general public.
  • Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and understand complex work schedules and diagrams.

Skills

  • Physical strength and agility.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to wear a uniform supplied and in compliance with dress code.

Pay

Salary Range: $15.00 - $20.70 per hour

Schedule

Average 20-25 hours per week, with hours scheduled based on program and event needs, including evenings and weekends.
