Building and Codes Official

This position is located in Sacramento, CA and requires in-office work five days a week.

About the role

Under the general direction of the Codes and Standards Administrator III, the Building and Codes Official is responsible for the operations including the permitting office and field operations covering construction and code enforcement of applicable laws and regulations. Responsibilities pertain to the manufacturer, use, conversion, and alterations of all manufactured homes, mobilehomes, commercial modulars, and special purpose commercial modulars; the construction, use, occupancy, and maintenance of mobilehome and special occupancy parks.

Responsibilities

• Oversee permitting office and field operations for construction and code enforcement.
• Enforce laws and regulations related to manufactured homes, mobilehomes, commercial modulars, and special purpose commercial modulars.
• Ensure compliance with codes governing the use, occupancy, and maintenance of mobilehome and special occupancy parks.

Requirements

• Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) as a condition of employment; position is subject to enrollment in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check conducted in California.
• May be required to file a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700) due to Conflict of Interest Code rules.
• Employment authorization verified through the federal E-Verify system.

Pay

$8,116.00 - $10,100.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Effective July 1, 2025, a 2% salary reduction is in place under the Personal Leave Program (PLP), with 3.5 hours of Personal Leave Credit earned monthly in exchange. This program is subject to change based on union agreements and state budget policy.
