Building a Brand Between Hospital Shifts
About Ethel M. Scott
Ethel M. Scott is a nurse by profession and the founder of Pressed By Moore, a beauty brand inspired by the everyday realities of healthcare workers. Nursing has taught her compassion, resilience, patience, and attention to detail—qualities that have also shaped her approach to entrepreneurship.
The Inspiration Behind Pressed By Moore
The idea for Pressed By Moore came from Ethel's everyday experience as a nurse. Working in healthcare means long shifts, unpredictable schedules, and sometimes working almost every day of the week with only one or two days off. She noticed that whenever there was a birthday, wedding, or special event, many nurses would spend money getting acrylic nails done, only to remove them shortly afterward because of work requirements. This felt like spending so much time and money on something that couldn't last, which made her wonder if there was a better solution.
While some doctors can work with their nails depending on their role, nurses often have stricter practical requirements. Ethel also realized press-on nails could be perfect for anyone who simply loves changing their nail designs often without committing to one style. She has always loved having her nails done—both hands and feet—so creating a business around something she genuinely enjoys felt natural.
Products
Through Pressed By Moore, Ethel offers press-on nails in different lengths and sizes because every woman has her own preference. Some love short, elegant nails, while others enjoy longer, bolder styles.
Journey and Growth
Ethel started the business on a very small scale. For a long time, she didn't put herself or her products on social media because she was afraid and questioned whether people would buy from her or whether the business would ever grow beyond family and friends. Looking back, she realizes fear kept her hidden more than anything else.
A turning point came when she joined the FoundHers community. Being surrounded by women who were building businesses made her realize that her idea had potential. During one conversation, the founder, Ms. Shirley-Grace Hart (managing partner of foundher.hq), encouraged her to think beyond simply selling products and challenged her to see Pressed By Moore as a brand she could intentionally build. That conversation gave her the confidence to stop waiting until everything felt perfect.
Ethel is still at the beginning of her journey. She recently created an Instagram page for Pressed By Moore as her first step toward building an online presence and growing a community around her brand. Her second batch of products is expected to arrive in August, and she's excited because it marks another step forward in this journey.
Vision
Ethel's vision is to grow Pressed By Moore into a trusted beauty brand that serves busy women, especially healthcare professionals and anyone looking for stylish, convenient nail solutions. She knows she's not there yet, but she's committed to learning, improving, and taking one step at a time. For her, nursing will always be her profession, and entrepreneurship is the dream she's choosing to build alongside it.
