Budtender - Portage
Retail position located at 5747 S Westnedge Ave, Portage, MI 49002. Non-exempt, hourly pay range: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour. Tips are kept by the employee; no tip pooling.
About the role
The Budtender delivers an exceptional guest experience by providing personalized cannabis recommendations, product education, and outstanding customer service. This role supports the day-to-day operations of the dispensary by assisting guests, processing transactions, maintaining compliance with Michigan cannabis regulations, and contributing to a welcoming, efficient, and professional retail environment.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers, listen to their needs, and make personalized product recommendations.
- Educate customers on cannabis types (flower, edibles, concentrates) and safe usage.
- Verify customer age via ID checks, adhere to purchase limits, and follow state and local cannabis laws.
- Process transactions using a Point-of-Sale (POS) system and handle cash accurately.
- Maintain store cleanliness, stock shelves, and manage product inventory.
- Improve personal Average Order Value (AOV), Units Per Transaction (UPT), and average daily sales month over month.
Requirements
- 6+ months of experience in the cannabis industry.
- Cash handling experience.
- Customer service experience.
- Product knowledge (preferred but not required).
- Must be 21+ years of age and pass a background check.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting, standing, walking, and climbing for extended periods.
Work Environment
The dispensary environment is fast-paced, energetic, and can be loud. Staff must adapt to busy rushes, long lines, and wait times during peak hours. The sales floor features specialized product displays for flower, edibles, and concentrates.
