Budget Analyst
About the role
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut seeks a Budget Analyst to support budget administration, financial management, and accounting and financial reporting functions. The position is based in New Haven, Connecticut.
Responsibilities
- Collecting, consolidating, and analyzing narrative and statistical data to support budget formulation, financial reporting, and operational decision-making.
- Researching and interpreting legal, regulatory, programmatic, and budgetary guidance to ensure compliance and inform fiscal planning.
- Monitoring, tracking, and verifying obligations and expenditures to confirm timely execution in accordance with applicable regulatory controls.
- Preparing annual administrative budgets, operating plans, and a wide variety of budgetary reports using outputs from the financial management system.
- Analyzing expenditure trends and cost drivers to identify variables impacting program costs and recommend adjustments for improved efficiency.
Requirements
- To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level performing three (3) of the four (4) duties listed above.
- To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must possess a minimum of two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree, or LL.B. or J.D. in a related field of study.
- Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
- Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations.
- Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
Qualifications
- To Qualify At The GS-09 Level, You Must Possess Specialized Experience: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing (3) of the (4) duties listed below:
- Gathering statistical data needed for financial reporting;
- Reviewing the accuracy of budget and program data;
- Using financial management systems to enter data, track funds, and/or develop reports;
- Compiling budget requests.
- To Qualify At The GS-11 Level, You Must Possess Specialized Experience: At least two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree, or LL.B. or J.D. in a related field of study.
