About the role
The City of Buckeye is seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to serve as a Court Clerk. This position plays a crucial role in the efficient operation of the municipal court system, ensuring accurate record-keeping and providing excellent customer service to the public.
Responsibilities
- Process and maintain court documents, including case files, motions, and orders
- Assist judges, attorneys, and the public with case information and procedural questions
- Schedule court hearings, trials, and other proceedings
- Prepare and issue legal documents such as subpoenas, warrants, and summonses
- Collect fines, fees, and other payments; maintain accurate financial records
- Administer oaths to witnesses and jurors
- Record and transcribe minutes of court proceedings
- Ensure compliance with court policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Provide customer service to court visitors, including answering phones and responding to inquiries
- Perform data entry and maintain electronic and physical filing systems
- Assist with the preparation of court dockets and calendars
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in criminal justice, paralegal studies, or a related field is preferred
- Minimum of one year of experience in a legal, court, or customer service environment
- Knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and municipal court operations
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Must be able to pass a background check
