About the role
The SAMDA BSA / Scrum Master role at Schwab is a hybrid position aimed at driving delivery execution while owning business and data requirements clarity for teams building on the SAMDA platform. This role ensures that complex investment and operational data initiatives are translated into well-defined, prioritized, and executable work, and that teams deliver consistently using Agile best practices.
Responsibilities
Partner with Product Owners and business stakeholders to elicit, analyze, and document business, data, and operational requirements.
Translate business needs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and data requirements suitable for Agile delivery teams.
Own and maintain the product backlog, ensuring items are well-defined, prioritized, and ready for sprint execution.
Ensure requirements reflect data governance, regulatory, and operational considerations relevant to SAMDA initiatives.
Support dependency identification and clarify impacts across data domains, platform capabilities, and downstream consumers.
Serve as the Scrum Master for one or more SAMDA delivery teams. Facilitate all core Agile ceremonies, including: Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Reviews/Demos, Retrospectives.
Coach the team on Agile principles, Scrum practices, and continuous improvement.
Contribute in building and operationalizing processes for Data Engineering practices, enabling working with product owners, Architect and data engineering teams.
Remove or escalate impediments that block team progress. Protect the team from unplanned work and scope churn while balancing delivery commitments.
Track sprint execution, dependencies, and risks, ensuring predictable delivery and transparency. Coordinate across platform teams, data domain teams, and external dependencies to keep work moving.
Support release planning and readiness activities in collaboration with Tech Leads and Product Owners. Maintain delivery artifacts and ensure alignment across Jira, documentation, and reporting tools.
Act as a primary point of coordination between delivery teams and stakeholders. Communicate sprint progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to Product Owners and leadership. Facilitate discussions to resolve scope, priority, and dependency conflicts.
Ensure stakeholders have a clear, shared understanding of delivery goals and timelines.
Use Agile metrics (e.g., velocity, throughput, cycle time) to identify improvement opportunities. Drive retrospectives toward actionable outcomes, not just discussion. Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning. Help teams mature their Agile practices over time.
Qualifications
6–10+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Scrum Master, or Agile Delivery Lead supporting technology teams in Wealth Management, Asset Management, or Financial Services.
Demonstrated experience working on investment, portfolio, operational, or regulatory data initiatives within a wealth or asset management context.
Strong understanding of wealth and asset management business domains, such as: Portfolio management and investment operations, Holdings, positions, transactions, and accounting data, Product, security, and reference data, Regulatory and compliance-driven reporting workflows.
Proven ability to translate complex business and data requirements from investment, operations, or compliance stakeholders into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and delivery plans.
Hands-on experience supporting data-centric delivery teams, including data engineering, analytics, or platform teams.
Practical experience working in regulated environments, with awareness of governance, data controls, audit considerations, and risk management expectations common to wealth and asset management firms.
Strong working knowledge of Agile/Scrum framework with a demonstrated ability to apply them effectively in enterprise, multi-team environments.
Experience coordinating delivery across multiple stakeholder groups, including technology, product, operations, and business partners.
Proven track record of removing impediments, managing dependencies, and driving predictable delivery in complex delivery environments.
Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to bridge business and technology conversations.
