Brushmaker - 3rd Shift

Join the Purdy paintbrush manufacturing team in the Line Brushmaking department. Purdy manufactures professional painting tools of the highest quality. This role focuses on producing quality brush heads while adhering to Sherwin-Williams' core value of safety. All employees are required to participate in the safety program, with involvement and communication essential for continuous improvement in Safety, Quality, Service, Cost, and People.

About the role

This position involves contact with other employees, operating heavy machinery, and handling proprietary information, raw materials, and finished merchandise. A review of criminal history may be conducted to protect the business, its operations, and reputation, as well as the safety of staff and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Use a scanner to scan on and off orders
  • Gather materials: ferrules, plugs, inserts, labels, pull-down, pull-down magnet
  • Set up the power chisel with the correct chisel bar and clamp
  • Remove a brush head from the lower conveyor belt
  • Loosen the filament in the brush head by holding the ferrule and pushing the filament down to drop the plug and center it
  • Butt down the brush
  • Split the butt end of the filament
  • Insert wooden plug(s) into the split if no plug was inserted by the knot assembly
  • Butt down again
  • Chisel the butt end of the brush using the power chisel
  • Place the brush head on the pull-down and close the clamp
  • Pull down the ferrule over the pull-down
  • Release the clamp and fan the top of the brush forward
  • Remove the brush from the pull-down
  • Tweeze out any turned ends
  • Comb the brush straight
  • Insert the appropriate insert into the ferrule depending on brush type
  • Apply the Brushmaker name label onto the ferrule (before or after other steps)
  • Inspect the brush head for quality
  • Place completed brush heads on the upper conveyor belt
  • Maintain a clean work area and conduct a final cleaning near the end of each shift

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for an employment work visa now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of experience operating machinery in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment
  • At least one (1) year of work experience monitoring the quality of raw materials and/or finished goods
  • Experience with fine manipulation (e.g., sewing, cutting hair, or related activities)

Schedule

3rd Shift: Sunday Night - Friday Morning, 10 PM - 6:15 AM

Pay

Shift differential: $0.75 per hour. This position is also eligible for a performance-based bonus under the terms of the Company’s applicable plans.
