Responsibilities

• Operate one or more types of construction equipment such as asphalt pavers, asphalt rollers, material transfer vehicles, milling machines, back hoes, and skid steers as they apply to milling and paving operations.
• Ensure safe operation, non-mechanical maintenance, and upkeep of equipment.
• Discuss plans and goals for the day's work with the field manager and determine the best method of completing assigned work safely, productively, and on time.
• Perform physical duties commonly associated with the safe and productive operation of the equipment.
• Conduct equipment maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing, and maintaining fluid levels.
• Operate equipment with priority on making the job safe for all persons working around the equipment.
• Communicate clearly with other crew members to accomplish daily goals through teamwork.

Requirements

• GED or high school diploma (preferred).
• 2 years of equipment operating experience (required).
• Related work experience (required).
• Valid Driver’s License (required).

Skills and Abilities

• Make judgments regarding the most efficient operations of equipment and attachments.
• Strong hand, foot, and eye coordination to safely operate equipment.
• Compliance with Allan Myers policies, including equipment repair/maintenance procedures and Operator Safety Standards.
• Adherence to safety policies such as "Home Safe Tonight" and "AIPS".

Physical Demands

• Requires extensive and heavy physical activity and dexterity.
• Must be able to operate equipment for long periods and get into awkward positions for cleaning and maintenance.
• Requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, kneel, climb, or balance.
• Must be able to carry or handle materials up to 75 pounds.
• Requires specific types of vision: close, color, and peripheral.

Work Environment

• Responsible for the safety of self and fellow workers.
• Work conditions vary by site and are affected by weather.
• Rough grading and undeveloped job sites present safety threats where carelessness or poor judgment could result in serious or fatal injury.
• Works adjacent to live traffic on most days.

Travel Requirements

• Travel is required; overnight stays may occasionally be necessary.
• Night and weekend work shifts are common during the milling and paving season.
