About the role
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for effectively selecting means to plan profitable and efficient transportation for our customers participating in the USCS Logistics Brokerage. This includes negotiating rates, scheduling and routing delivery vehicles, and managing the profitability and service of assigned lanes.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage the profitability and service of assigned lanes through daily planning and decision-making
- Individually responsible for the profitability of $400K to $1 million in revenue per month
- Understand transit times based on DOT Regulations
- Direct communication with customers to solve problems and plan effective freight
- Effectively select means to plan profitable and efficient single-stop and multi-stop temperature-controlled trucks
- Price and procure carriers for the brokerage department
- Drive sales and growth in the brokerage department
- Independently plan, organize, and control activities related to transportation with minimal interaction from management
- Work with management on any new lanes customers need pricing for
- Answer requests for proposals and orders from customers
- Interact professionally with customers and carriers daily
- Onboard new carriers through the carrier management system
- Utilize load boards to procure carriers
- Receive and confirm orders for transportation
- Knowledge of refrigerated carrier market pricing and where to seek it
- Organize transportation under the best conditions, respecting quality and company timekeeping standards
- Find optimal solutions for transport and communicate solutions to customers
- Establish relationships with clients in pursuit of sustainable business relationships
- Negotiate spot rates with outside carriers to decide effective and profitable means of transportation
- Track and trace shipments with contracted carriers
- Coordinate with warehouse schedulers to ensure timely shipping
- Respect laws on road traffic, public, domestic, and international traffic of goods
- Direct carriers for loading and unloading of consignments, goods, and means of transport
- Effectively communicate load details with outside carriers
- Make pickup and delivery appointments on all platforms
- Ensure TMS information is updated in a timely and accurate manner
- Maintain a professional manner in appearance and communications
- Participate in staff and/or customer meetings if required
- Initiate action to prevent non-conformities relating to product, process, and quality systems
- Identify and record any issues relating to product, processes, and/or quality
- Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through appropriate channels
- Verify the implementation of solutions
- Follow posted security procedures at all times while in the building
- Participate in Safety and Educational Training
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and/or 3+ years of equivalent Logistics experience
- PC, leadership, and planning skills
- Experience in AS400, RMIS, TMS, Word, Excel, Online Scheduling Systems, and PowerPoint a plus
- Experience with warehouse paperwork a plus
- Ability to thrive in a constantly changing, chaotic environment and consistently meet tight timelines
- Ability to coordinate with contracted trucking dispatchers and drivers
- Good arithmetic, reading, and typing skills
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to see, speak, and hear
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- May require physical effort associated with using the computer, occasional standing, walking, or lifting for everyday activities
- Ability to understand and follow verbal instruction, written instruction, and company policies
- Ability to work independently and coordinate with others
- Follow safety procedures at all times
- Ability to manage stress and productivity guidelines
Pay
Hourly wage: $24-$28 per hour
