Broker Service Consultant
About the role
Assists in planning and implementing the pursuit of strategic opportunities by cultivating partnerships or other Marine New Business SPM and BDM and Head relationships, or by identifying new markets for the entity's products or services.
Build and maintain relationships with intermediaries while developing technical skills and knowledge for future New Business Marine roles to ensure growth of the business and excellent service to intermediaries.
Willing to obtain the skills required and apply them to underwrite and retain business through negotiation on technical issues, quotations, rates, and renewals within underwriting guidelines, including complex accounts and special wording type accounts.
Develop an understanding of financial transactions within mandate, including discounts, rates, accepting or declining to quote on business (including complex accounts and special wording type accounts).
Assist with reinsurance placement and all administration until placement within SOP’s. Assist with operational effectiveness by understanding the management required for handling multi-claimants, collecting outstanding premiums, requesting risk surveys, managing survey risk recommendations, signing off closing documentation, and reporting.
Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, mandates, and company retention limits. Manage a portfolio of small to medium brokers with a focus on retaining existing business, growing their support within agreed targets, ensuring profitability, and balancing organic growth after business is obtained.
Maintain required productivity statistics and broker visitation records.
Responsibilities

Requirements
- Business-oriented with a strong focus on customer service and client relationship management.
- Decisive with the ability to apply learnings quickly and make decisions within authority levels.
- Current entry-level technical Marine Insurance experience or understanding is essential.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain high standards.
- Self-managed with strong time management and ability to meet turnaround times.
- Ownership and responsibility for underwriting decisions, including accepting risks on behalf of the Marine line of business.
Qualifications
- Matric and 120 credits preferred.
- RE 5 qualification is advantageous.
- 3+ years of Marine Underwriting experience.
- NQF Level 7 - Degree, Advanced Diploma, or Postgraduate Certificate or equivalent.
