Broadcast Systems Design Engineer

Full-time exempt position with up to 30% travel, occasionally on short notice. Occasional evening and weekend work required.

About the role

The Broadcast Systems Design Engineer designs and implements solutions for broadcast, sports, educational, and corporate clients. The Engineer collaborates with the sales team to provide equipment, technology, and implementation recommendations, then delivers drawings, configurations, and testing for sold systems. Alpha emphasizes a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

• Consult with the Sales team to establish customer needs and present solutions to clients.
• Determine client expectations for system functionality through communication with the sales department and client.
• Recommend general and specific solutions to clients alongside the sales department.
• Design complete systems for quoting, including equipment, parts, consumables, and labor.
• Write scopes of work to convey system expectations.
• Respond to bid requests.
• Diagram systems using AutoCAD and Visio.
• Work with a project manager to manage proposals, including coordination of installers with the end client and tracking of time and materials.
• Provide technical support to Alpha Video employees and clients in areas of expertise.
• Research new products to remain current on technology solutions.
• Perform all other duties as assigned and deemed appropriate.

Requirements

• Up to 30% travel, occasionally on a last-minute basis.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Comprehensive knowledge of system configurations, with an emphasis on client workflow.
• Comprehensive knowledge of industry best practices.
• Extensive audio and video design and theory.
• Experience with design of digital signage and IPTV systems.
• RF design and theory.
• IT knowledge.
• Self-motivated and resourceful.
• Ability to solve unusual or unexpected technical or installation problems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous employment with an integrator, TV station, or sports facility maintaining or designing systems infrastructure.
• Experience programming and configuring Harris, Evertz, Ross, Sony, Grass Valley, Panasonic, JVC, and AJA routers, switchers, cameras, servers, and plant distribution.
• Knowledge of display products and systems.
• CTS, CTS-D, or SBE certifications.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• A minimum of three years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Skills

• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
• AutoCAD and MS Visio experience required.
• Q360 experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift, raise, lower, push, or carry up to 40 lbs. from ground to waist, waist to overhead, and between surfaces at mid level.
• Remaining in a stationary position, often sitting for prolonged periods.
• Ability to enter text or data using a traditional keyboard or 10-key.
• Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (working with small objects or reading small print), including computer use.
• Ability to express or exchange ideas verbally to convey information or instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech in person, by telephone, or via other technology.
• Ability to ascend or descend structures (ladders, scaffolding, ropes, or poles) up to 15 feet tall using both upper and lower body.
• Ability to walk, navigate, or stand on both even and uneven surfaces.
