BROADCAST INTERNSHIP
Participant will work under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, Director of Broadcasting, and Vice President of Communications & Digital Media, gaining exposure to the broadcasting and media relations aspects of a professional sports team. Flexible scheduling is required to attend practices, morning skates, and all home games. Candidates may also be needed in-studio for select road games throughout the season.
Objective/Goals
This internship provides hands-on experience by working closely with the Crunch radio/television broadcaster. Chosen candidate(s) will learn the necessary preparation and inner workings of a professional hockey broadcast.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation for the Crunch radio/television broadcasts
- Provide relevant statistics for the Crunch radio/television broadcasts
- Possibility of on-air experience for radio broadcasts
- Contribute to radio broadcasts via packaged stories
- Conduct interviews with players and coaches for the broadcasts and other media outlets
- Contribute to the content of the game day press notes
- Work home games, events, and select road games (remotely in studio) as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned in the areas of media relations
- Qualified candidates may contribute to any of the team’s official podcasts
Requirements
- Undergraduate or graduate student interested in pursuing a career in sports broadcasting or journalism
- Strong creative, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of the rules of ice hockey strongly recommended
- Experience in sports preferred but not required
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
Schedule
- Duration of the 2026-27 Syracuse Crunch season
- 15-20 hours per week (negotiable)
- Attendance at a minimum of one (1) practice or morning skate each week
- Additional team events (annual holiday party, community events, etc.) as needed
- Extended hours on game days
Pay
This is a non-paid internship. When negotiated with each individual college, credit will be granted. Parking reimbursement is provided.
