Bringup Electrical Engineer
Waabi, founded by AI visionary Raquel Urtasun, is the leader in Physical AI. With a world-class team, we're unlocking the next era of autonomous transportation with technology that's powering commercial autonomous trucks and robotaxis. Waabi is backed by and partners with world leaders in AI, automotive, logistics, and deep tech.
About the role
As a Bringup Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for turning our custom electronics from a design file into road-ready hardware. You'll partner with our contract manufacturers to get boards built and then work with technicians to validate, program and assemble them, ready to be installed on our autonomous vehicles. You will also ensure the quality of our designs by designing test fixtures and working on Verification and Validation efforts. When something doesn't behave as expected, you'll troubleshoot with hands-on debugging using tools like soldering irons, oscilloscopes, and terminals.
Responsibilities
- CM Coordination: Work directly with our Contract Manufacturers (CMs) to get PCBs and assemblies manufactured. Shepherd builds through fabrication, follow up on schedules, and flag issues before they become bottlenecks.
- Incoming Inspection & Assembly: Collaborate with our quality management team to develop controls and monitors for embedded hardware at various stages of manufacture. Work with technicians to inspect received boards for quality and workmanship, perform rework or hand-assembly as needed, test and validate boards, and integrate them into final enclosures while complying with OEM partner and internal quality standards.
- Inventory Management: Track components, boards, and assemblies so the team always knows what's on hand, what's in transit, and what needs reordering.
- End-of-Line (EOL) Debug: Support vehicle end-of-line testing by helping diagnose and resolve board- and vehicle-level issues.
- Test Fixture Design & Module V&V: Work with design and V&V teams to develop module end-of-line test fixtures, then use them to evaluate designs under nominal and stressful environmental and electrical conditions.
Requirements
- The Credentials: BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 10+ years in hardware development and/or test engineering, with at least 2-3 years in a formal leadership role.
- CM Fluency: Experience partnering with Contract Manufacturers to deliver high-quality products.
- The "Maker" Mindset: Hands-on lab experience combined with strategic vision to manage high-level roadmaps.
- Process Improver: Proactively seek ways to improve designs, processes, and workflows.
