About the role
The role of a Structural / Bridge Engineering Intern is to work as an integral team member on a variety of projects under the guidance of a Senior Bridge Engineer. This role will entail a variety of tasks which may include performing simple calculations, spreadsheet creation, quantity take-offs, plan set preparation, CAD drafting, field inspection activities, reporting, building familiarity with codes, legislation, and professional reference material, and assisting with the load rating of structures such as bridges and culverts for pedestrian, vehicular, and railroad projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform simple calculations
- Create spreadsheets
- Take off quantities
- Prepare plan sets
- Carry out CAD drafting
- Conduct field inspections
- Prepare reports
- Build familiarity with codes, legislation, and professional reference material
- Assist with load rating of structures
Requirements
- Must be willing and able to take initiative when needed
- Good communication skills: verbal, business writing, electronic communications, and presentations
- MS Office skills including Word and Excel; PowerPoint and/or Mathcad is a plus
- Experience in AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, MicroStation or other is a plus
- Able to travel locally for short durations
- Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in college/university in a structural or civil engineering discipline
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work within a team environment
Skills
- AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, MicroStation or other software
- MS Office skills including Word and Excel; PowerPoint and/or Mathcad
- Good communication skills
- Positive attitude with strong relationship building skills
- Ability to travel locally for short durations
- Valid Driver's License
