Bridge Monitor

About the role

Monitors bridge and railway right of way to ensure the safe operation of the moveable bridge in conjunction with the Train Dispatcher.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with the marine industry and boating public by way of usual and customary communication methods utilized by the industry.
• Communicates with FEC System Operations/Dispatchers/FDC.
• Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred.
• Watches for and reports irregularities, such as fire hazards, mechanical and bridge failures, and security doors left unlocked.
• Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department and company authorities as well as train dispatcher by telephone and/or radio in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
• Records data such as train movements, bridge openings and closures, property damage, and/or unusual occurrences as required by the United States Coast Guard Regulation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak to marine traffic via marine radio, when required.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
