Bridge Inspector

About the role

CDI is seeking a certified Bridge Inspector Team Leader to join our Structures/Bridge Group. This role involves performing bridge inspections and completing related office tasks, supporting our mission of Building Stronger Communities. You will lead projects, guide emerging engineers, and contribute to developing a better tomorrow through meaningful work.

This position can be based in Collinsville, IL; Effingham, IL; or St. Louis, MO, and may be full-time or part-time. Overnight travel of up to 40% is expected.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate bridge inspections according to FHWA and owner requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, clients, and stakeholders to communicate inspection results.
• Prepare for bridge inspections, including arranging necessary equipment, sketches, safety devices, and coordinating safety vehicles.
• Ensure compliance with CDI’s safety procedures.
• Document findings from visual and physical bridge inspections.
• Assess bridges, noting severity of damage, deterioration, load-carrying capacity, and weight restrictions.
• Advise on immediate repairs and long-term strategies.
• Prepare bridge inspection forms and reports under the direction of the Bridge Project Manager.
• Enter inspection data, request reports, and analyze information.

Requirements

• NBIS Team Leader Certification.
• Statewide travel with overnight stays.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to climb and inspect various types of bridges.
• Comfortable working with heights and in confined spaces.
• Positive attitude and ability to work self-directed with a focus on quality while collaborating within a team.
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Pay

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $65,000–$95,000 per year. Compensation varies based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other factors.
