Responsibilities

  • Bridge Maintenance:
    • Performs and maintains necessary repairs and installations in steel fabrication and erection of bridges and structures to maintain structural integrity with minimal safety risk and public inconvenience.
    • Performs concrete work for the construction and repair of bridges and structures, ensuring correct placement, consolidation, finishing, and curing according to specifications.
    • Performs carpentry duties related to bridges, buildings, and structures to ensure proper construction, remodeling, and forming in compliance with standards and building codes.
    • Assists with safety inspections on bridges and structures, cleans and prepares them for painting to maintain structural integrity according to Federal and State requirements.
    • Provides traffic control setup.
  • Snow & Ice:
    • Maintains roadways for snow and ice control.
    • Removes snow from roadways and shoulders.
    • Opens and widens roadways with large accumulations of snow.
    • Removes snow from rights of way or yards.
    • Applies anti-icing and de-icing chemicals on highways under slippery conditions.
    • Removes ice and material from culverts.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience performing carpentry, concrete work, iron work, or a combination of these activities:
    • Carpentry: Building construction, building repairs, or framing.
    • Concrete work: Grading, bridge construction/repair/maintenance, or forming, placing, and finishing concrete.
    • Iron work: Structural steel erection, setting anchor bolts and inserts, gusset plate installation, placement of reinforcing steel or rebar, or rebar replacement.
  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and maintain routine written logs and simple records.
  • Valid Class D Driver’s License and a Class A CDL Permit with no airbrake restriction and a tanker endorsement.

A two-year technical trades training or degree (e.g., carpentry, concrete/masonry) or equivalent may be substituted for one year of experience. Transcripts must be submitted for education to be considered in lieu of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Class A or B CDL with no airbrake restriction and a tanker endorsement.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work nights and outdoors exposed to weather elements (hot and cold) on an intermittent basis.
  • Drive motorized vehicles in on- and off-road conditions.
  • Walk on even and uneven/sloping ground.
  • Frequently rotate through body positions (standing, twisting, bending, sitting, kneeling, and squatting).
  • Occasionally operate machinery and equipment under varying temperatures.
  • Wear and use personal protective equipment to protect the head, eyes, hearing, respiration, visibility, and feet from injury.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to communicate through writing, speaking, and hearing, and use electronic communication equipment (e.g., telephone, two-way radio, computer).

Additional Requirements

  • All job offers are contingent upon passing a Criminal Background Check, SEMA4 Records Check, Drug Screening, Employment Verification, Reference Checks, and Driver’s License Screening at the required level.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing. Individuals not currently in the random testing pool must pass a preplacement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP), amphetamines, and semi-synthetic opioids (e.g., hydrocodone, oxycodone, hydromorphone, oxymorphone).
  • Must be immediately accessible by phone and able to report to work within one (1) hour in the event of an emergency and/or snow and ice events.

Pay

$27.14 - $35.09 per hour; $56,668 - $73,267 annually.

Schedule

  • Day Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
  • Days of Work: Monday - Friday.
  • No travel required.
