About the role
The primary role involves the operations and maintenance of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Key accountabilities include preparing, reviewing, evaluating, revising, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures for safe, compliant, reliable, and profitable operations. Responsibilities also include scheduling staff assignments, participating in performance evaluations, following company discipline policy when necessary, and performing work on both distribution and sewer collection systems.
Responsibilities
- Prepares, reviews, evaluates, revises, establishes, and implements policies and procedures for water and wastewater systems.
- Calls out and participates in the review and evaluation of staff performance, including water and wastewater systems sampling protocols and disinfection of water mains.
- Fulfills day-to-day activities, schedules staff assignments, and follows company discipline policy when needed.
- Follows and implements American Water's Environmental, Health, and Safety Policies.
- Implements and fosters the coaching and development of employees, including idea generation, within respective functional areas.
- Communicates effectively and respectfully with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and customers.
- Maintains work records and preventative maintenance records and prepares various reports as assigned.
- Participates in the preparation of Capital and Operations and Maintenance Budgets. Reviews and approves expenditures.
- Performs standby duties and other related functions as assigned or as they become apparent.
Requirements
- Ability to plan and coordinate the work of employees.
- General knowledge of MS Office products, MS Word and Excel, and ability to learn new software with training assistance.
- Ability to plan and present safety training to employees.
- Employee may be required to work shift work and maintain on-call assignments.
- Extensive knowledge of the objectives, equipment, and operations of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Thorough knowledge of the layout, location, and equipment characteristics of water and wastewater systems.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, plus at least five (5) years progressively responsible experience in operations, maintenance, and administration of water and/or wastewater systems and treatment.
- Supervisory experience a plus.
Skills
- Ability to plan and coordinate the work of employees.
- General knowledge of MS Office products, MS Word and Excel, and be able to learn the use of new software with training assistance.
- Ability to plan and present safety training to employees.

Pay
$34.00 - $41.00 per hour
Schedule
Shift work and on-call assignments may be required. Some weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be necessary.
