About the role
This position is available in HDR’s SC Bridge and Structures Team in Columbia, South Carolina. HDR is a nationally recognized company, ranked #1 in Top 20 Bridge firms by Engineering News-Record.
Responsibilities
- Participate in bridge designs, develop design plans, perform structural load calculations and quantity takeoffs
- Review shop drawings and field submittals
- Work in a team environment as well as independently
- Assist with geometric layout and bridge type studies
- Perform other duties such as bridge inspection and construction observation as needed
Requirements
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification strongly preferred
- Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Designer" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression
- MS Office, Math CAD and MicroStation experience
- Familiarity with MIDAS, STAAD, or LARSA or other general structural analysis programs as well as OpenBridge Designer, MDX, AASHTOWare BrR, Finite Element Analysis software, and other structural design programs a plus
- Master's degree in civil/structural engineering is preferred
- New graduate candidates considered; additional bridge/structural design experience will also be considered
- Must be willing to work with other disciplines (bridge inspection, roadway design, hydraulic analysis, construction services, environmental) within the office
- Familiarity with AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications and other DOT design guidelines considered a plus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills and willingness to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment on a wide range of projects
- Strong understanding and hands-on use of computers for structural layout and design
- Preference given to local candidates
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering
- Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RISA, Staad, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar

Pay
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
