Bridge Carpenter

About the role
We are seeking a Bridge Carpenter to join our Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc. team. Reporting to direct supervision, the Bridge Carpenter is responsible for carrying out carpentry-related duties on bridge demolition and rebuild, including building forms, form systems, pouring concrete, cutting and measuring wood, abutments, and overhangs. This position works with the entire Project Team to plan and support the completion of assigned bridge construction projects, ensuring all plans move forward to meet projected deadlines. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction and is subject to drug testing and compliance policies as a Federal Contractor.
Responsibilities
- Construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden and/or metal forms for molding concrete structures such as piers, footers, retaining walls, abutments, parapets, caps, columns, and bridge decks.
- Saw lumber per blueprint dimensions using handsaws or power saws and nail lumber together to make form panels.
- Lift and handle built-in-place forms and/or assemble, erect, and install prefabricated forms.
- Insert spreaders and tie rods between opposite faces of forms to maintain specified dimensions.
- Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, and planks.
- Build rough wooden structures such as scaffolds, temporary frame shelters, overhang jacks, and safety railings.
- Lift and set rails for finishing machines.
- Pour concrete in forms and decks, requiring vibrating, shoveling, and raking, and assist concrete finishers.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Journeyman Bridge Carpenter.
- Familiarity with bridge construction, form systems, hand and power tools, and all other highway construction scopes.
- Ability to work at heights up to 150 feet.
- Experience building bridges and with concrete work.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong prioritization, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Open to regional travel.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or G.E.D. preferred with basic reading and writing skills.
- 3+ years of experience in bridge carpentry; experience running small equipment is helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds from ground level to waist level and 30 pounds to above shoulder level throughout the work shift.
- Continuous standing and walking required throughout a scheduled work shift.
- Must be able to climb ladders.
- Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, and crawl.
- Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
- Must have the ability to reach, lift, and perform work above shoulder height and work on uneven surfaces and in confined spaces.
- Required to have acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and acceptable corrected hearing.
- Must be able to work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot, and humid weather.
Pay
$24.00/hr - $30.00/hr (based on experience)
