About the Role
A Bridge Carpenter performs tasks involving strenuous physical labor on highway and heavy construction projects. Responsibilities include operating hand tools, power tools, and lifts; cleaning and preparing sites; digging trenches; setting braces and forms for structures; cleaning up rubble, debris, and removing waste materials. The role requires maintaining a clean and secure job site, following proper safety and incident reporting procedures, and communicating any issues to a supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and lifts.
- Clean and prepare construction sites.
- Dig trenches and set braces/forms for structures.
- Clean up rubble, debris, and remove waste materials.
- Maintain a clean and secure job site to eliminate potential hazards.
- Follow proper safety and incident reporting procedures.
- Communicate problems to a supervisor.
- Ensure proper use of lifts, tools, and materials to minimize risk.
Requirements
- Knowledge of proper use of lifts, hand and power tools, and construction materials in a safe manner.
- Ability to work at heights with proper PPE and mobile equipment.
- Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
- Ability to work independently and complete tasks according to schedule.
- Willingness to communicate, follow instructions, and transmit written/oral directions.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
Physical Demands
- Regularly works near moving machinery/tools; requires good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination.
- Must be able to move quickly and have excellent stamina.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects over 50 lbs.
- Use of legs, hips, shoulders, abdominal, and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
- Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods and climb ladders.
