Breeder & Pullet Blood Puller
Responsibilities
- Communicate with service techs to schedule farms for blood draw and fat pull
- Sample Collection: Extract blood and fat samples from breeder hens and pullets for disease monitoring, including Salmonella and Influenza.
- Flock Health Management: Administer vaccinations, monitor for illnesses, and perform necropsies (if trained).
- Bird Weighing & Data Collection: Weigh birds weekly to manage feed intake and monitor growth, maintaining accurate records.
- Transportation & Logistics: Deliver, ship, or transport blood samples to state or company laboratories for testing.
- Biosecurity & Safety: Strict adherence to biosecurity protocols to prevent disease transmission; usually requires no ownership of other poultry.
- Other duties as assigned
- Education: High School Diploma/GED preferred
- Basic understanding of animal and husbandry practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Experience: Experience in farm(s) or similar agricultural environment
- Knowledge of avian species and their care requirements
- Familiarity with biosecurity protocols and practices
- 1 or more years of production or manufacturing environment
- Poultry or food industry experience is a plus
- Good work ethics and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting
- Strong to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to adapt to changing conditions and work under pressure
- A proactive attitude and a commitment to quality and safety
- Valid driver’s license with no moving violations
- Must be able to withstand the weather elements
- Must be able to physically catch and pen chickens
- Must not raise any poultry or birds
