About the Role

This position is responsible for assisting in day-to-day operations of the farm in a safe and cost-effective way while training to independently manage a company farm. Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults to growers and companies across the world, serving customers on a national and international scale by providing quality poults, service, and innovation.

Key Training Areas

  • Participate in all scheduled training rotations and complete assigned learning objectives within each phase.
  • Learn and apply company biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety standards in daily operations.
  • Support farm operations by assisting with bird care, feeding, watering, and environmental control.
  • Observe and perform hatchery processes including egg handling, incubation, hatching, and poult processing.
  • Assist in monitoring flock health, environmental conditions, and performance data.
  • Develop leadership and communication skills through collaboration with farm and hatchery staff.
  • Observe and perform breeding activities such as egg collection, artificial insemination, and semen collection.
  • Participate in maintenance, repairs, and facility operations.
  • Maintain accurate training documentation and complete performance check-ins.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and respect toward colleagues at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate basic proficiency in math and computer skills necessary for the role.
  • Work as a self-starter without the need for constant supervision.
  • Exhibit proficiency in written, reading, and verbal communication.
  • Assist in any area to get the job done, demonstrating effective time management.
  • Work with a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Handle live animals safely and effectively.
  • Wash and disinfect turkey production facilities in a safe and organized manner.
  • Run and review activity reports to determine progress and status in attaining objectives; confer with the Service Tech to revise objectives and plans based on current conditions.
  • Deliver supplies and equipment to various locations as needed.
  • Develop leadership skills to train, motivate, and mentor employees on the farm, building and maintaining a high-performing team to meet or exceed production goals.
  • Perform duties while constantly moving and using hands, occasionally lifting objects while being exposed to dust, cold, humidity, heat, chemicals, and fumes.
  • Present a positive and professional image of the company by exhibiting courtesy and professionalism in all actions.
  • Work varied schedules, including some weekends as required.
  • If required to drive a company vehicle, must pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check.
  • Ability to push, bend, stoop, squat, pull, and lift 50 lbs or more.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Does not own or operate around backyard poultry, fowl, or swine operations off duty.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of animal husbandry and welfare preferred.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record if needed.
  • Ability to push, bend, stoop, squat, pull, and lift 50 lbs or more.
  • Ability and willingness to develop and demonstrate a solid understanding of basic business practices.
  • Ability to lead and manage others, build creative, productive, and cohesive teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and listening.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to read and interpret relevant technical, industry, government regulations, and legislation.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, influence, and persuade all levels of employees.

Bilingual Spanish-speaking skills are a plus.

Schedule

Agricultural exempt (no overtime pay). Willingness to work varied schedules, including some weekends as required.
