About the Role

Promotes breastfeeding to pregnant women and provides support to breastfeeding mothers enrolled in the WIC Program. Embracing service, inspiring innovation, promoting teamwork, pursuing excellence, and advancing equity.

Responsibilities

  • Contact WIC breastfeeding moms by clinic, phone calls, text messages, emails, letters, or hospital visits within 1–7 days and 8–14 days after delivery to provide breastfeeding support, using the script for after-delivery contacts as a guide.
  • Make weekly contacts by clinic, phone calls, text messages, emails, letters, or hospital visits for the next three weeks after birth, then a minimum of once a month thereafter as long as the mom is breastfeeding, using the script for after-delivery contacts as a guide.
  • Refer breastfeeding moms/infants with complex breastfeeding situations to the breastfeeding coordinator.
  • Make prenatal contacts at 16, 20, 24, 27, 31, 35, 39, 40, and 41 weeks gestation using Natural Nutrition resources and the Script for Prenatal Contacts as a guide.
  • Keep accurate records of all contacts made with WIC mothers.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client information.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and relevant human services or social services experience.
  • Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) may upload an unofficial transcript; an official, certified transcript or diploma will be required prior to hiring.
  • Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered, subject to approval by the DPH Chief Human Resources Officer or their delegate.
  • If the position requires driving a state or personal vehicle, a certified copy of a 10-year driving record may be required in the final stages of selection.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A woman who has breastfed.
