Responsibilities

  • Participates in patient tracking and follow-up processes, assisting with recalls, additional imaging coordination, and biopsy scheduling as required by departmental workflows.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) and PACS systems.
  • Performs high-quality examinations in accordance with provider orders and departmental protocols, ensuring optimal image quality for accurate diagnosis.
  • Ensures exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for use, and that all equipment undergoes routine cleaning and safety checks.
  • Supports breast center initiatives, such as accreditation preparation, community screening events, or quality improvement activities.
  • Follows department protocols for patient identification, informed consent, and time-out procedures prior to starting exams.
  • Follows all MQSA, FDA, and ACR guidelines, including quality control testing, equipment performance checks, and documentation requirements.
  • Positions patients and operates mammography equipment to obtain optimal images, adjusting technical factors and compression as needed.
  • Collaborates with radiologists and breast imaging team to ensure accurate imaging and timely communication of results or next steps.
  • Ensures patient identification, safety, and comfort, explaining procedures clearly and addressing questions or concerns with professionalism and compassion.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel when inventory is low.
  • Performs and documents daily system quality control (QC) checks in compliance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of Mammography procedures and positions [Required]
  • Ability to determine appropriate technical factors [Required]
  • Knowledge of Mammography equipment and the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) and American College of Radiography (ACR) regulations [Required]
  • Ability to review prior images/films and distinguish area of interest [Required]
  • Ability to perform needle localizations, stereotactic core biopsies, and seed implants [Required]
  • Ability to train other Mammography Technologists in special procedures [Required]
  • Ability to work well with radiologists, nursing and surgical staff [Required]
  • Ability to assist with ACR accreditation of special procedures equipment and evaluations [Required]
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and have good comprehension of conversational English [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
  • Good organization skills [Preferred]

  • Education: Associate [Preferred], Bachelor's [Preferred], High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
  • Field Of Study: N/A
  • Work Experience: 1+ years experience [Preferred], 1+ years experience in Mammography [Required], 1+ years experience performing stereotactic core biopsies [Required], 1+ years experience performing breast needle localizations [Required], 1+ years experience performing seed implants [Preferred]
