At the Embassy Suites by Hilton Dulles Airport hotel in Herndon, VA, this role involves preparing and cooking food items to meet high-quality standards, supporting other cooks, and ensuring compliance with health regulations. The position contributes to financial performance, guest satisfaction, and positive team relations. This is an on-site role requiring morning shifts, including some weekends and holidays based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Food Quality and Production: Ensure the highest level of food quality and production standards. Conduct daily line checks, audits for consistency and quality, and implement improvements. Develop standard operating procedures to maximize quality. Oversee food preparation and delivery for banquet events and all outlets, including restaurant, room service, concierge, and à la carte service.
- Presentation / Menu Changes: Maintain outstanding presentation through use records and photographs, ensuring plate setups meet photo-record standards. Stay updated on menu changes, use records, and photographs.
- Cost Control: Follow procurement guidelines to control food costs while maximizing revenue. Manage and maintain company assets within budget to prolong their lifespan.
- Guest Service: Ensure guest satisfaction by meeting food and beverage standards. Address guest concerns promptly and model operational standards for kitchen staff, including adhering to ticket times while maintaining food quality.
- Safety/Risk Management: Lead by example in food safety and storage. Maintain quality standards per company, brand, local, state, and federal regulations. Ensure a clean and safe work environment and follow procedures for guest and team member incidents.
- Self/Workload Management: Manage workload effectively with clear written and verbal communication. Promote collaboration and a positive work environment. Adhere to all standard operating procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- College and/or culinary degree or equivalent experience required.
- 2+ years of progressive cook or kitchen experience.
- Detail-oriented with strong communication skills across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to problem-solve with team members and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly throughout the shift.
- Physically demanding role requiring walking, standing, carrying, and lifting for extended hours.
- Preference for 2+ years of experience as a cook in a restaurant or hotel of similar size and reputation.

Pay
$19 - $19 an hour. The actual base pay offered is determined by qualifications, relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, or professional licenses held. Base pay is one component of the total compensation package, which also includes healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, and bonus plans.
