About the Role
We are hiring a Breakfast Attendant to join the food and beverage team at the Residence Inn by Marriott and SpringHill Suites Chicago River North. This guest-facing role is ideal for a friendly, reliable, and service-oriented professional who takes pride in delivering an exceptional breakfast and evening social hour experience for hotel guests in Chicago's vibrant River North neighborhood.
Responsibilities
- Provide the highest quality of service to guests at all times — anticipating and exceeding guest expectations while adhering to White Lodging and Marriott brand basics.
- Prepare, display, and replenish all buffet food and beverage items during breakfast hours and evening social hour, ensuring quality, temperature, and portion accuracy; log temperatures throughout the shift.
- Complete all necessary setup, side work, and closing duties to maintain a clean, organized, and guest-ready environment from open to close.
- Deliver and serve food and beverage orders promptly, following White Lodging and Marriott brand SOPs, and operate kitchen appliances, outdoor grill, and point-of-sale systems as needed.
- Follow all safe food handling practices, including WLD, FIFO, proper chemical use, ServSafe standards, and Illinois state liquor laws during evening social hour service.
- Communicate effectively with guests, associates, and managers — responding to guest concerns promptly, reporting issues to management, and utilizing the property's Service Recovery processes.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all work areas, buffet displays, and the gatehouse, completing daily and weekly cleaning schedules and practicing energy conservation.
- Support hotel operations as needed — assisting with room service, bar area, housekeeping, laundry, and other duties to promote teamwork and a seamless guest experience.
Requirements
- No prior experience required — a genuine passion for guest service, a positive attitude, and a reliable, dependable work ethic are essential.
- Must complete the Service Training Manual and obtain certification within 30 days of orientation, including passing the certification quiz and obtaining TIPS Certification and ServSafe Certification.
- Comfort operating kitchen appliances, food and beverage equipment, outdoor grill, and point-of-sale/Micros systems in a fast-paced hotel environment.
- Strong communication and guest service skills, with the ability to interact professionally and warmly with guests, associates, and managers.
- Knowledge of and willingness to comply with Illinois state liquor laws; evening attendants must hold a valid liquor license if required by state.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. occasionally with assistance; ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, and move for extended periods throughout each shift.

Pay
Compensation starts between $24.40 and $24.41 per hour.
