Part-time position (15–25 hours/week), non-exempt, starting pay $15.81/hour.
About the role
The Food Service Aide provides routine food preparation and distribution assistance throughout the school and maintains accounting records.
Work schedule includes all days of student attendance that require food services, plus occasional non-student days for mandatory training, deep cleaning, or other job duties.
Responsibilities
- Prepare batches of food that are cooked to order or kept warm until distributed (e.g., hamburgers, chicken).
- Wash, cut, weigh, and measure ingredients according to instructions.
- Cook food following written or verbal directions; verify quality and quantity of orders.
- Multitask by cooking several items simultaneously, adhering to instructions.
- Maintain sanitation, health, cleanliness, and safety standards in food-prep areas, cooking services, and dishwashing.
- Prepare meat, poultry, and vegetables for cooking or use as condiments; combine salad ingredients.
- Arrange prepared food on serving trays or in designated areas for student and staff retrieval.
- Prevent ingredient spoilage through proper storage in designated containers and areas.
- Monitor food and storage-area temperatures.
- Stock kitchen by accepting deliveries, transporting items, and shelving supplies.
- Notify Food Service Coordinator of low supplies or equipment needing repair.
- Operate food-production equipment as directed.
- Clear, clean, and sanitize tables, workstations, dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and containers; return items to proper locations.
- Refill condiments and other supplies.
- Record numerical and financial data to produce accurate financial records.
- Enter journal entries to debit and credit school accounts; generate accounting and audit reports for cash receipts, accounts payable/receivable, expenditures, and profits/losses.
- Reconcile and report discrepancies in financial records.
- Participate in professional development opportunities as required.
- Arrive at work on time as scheduled.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic understanding of—or ability to learn—sanitation and workplace-safety regulations.
- Basic understanding of—or ability to learn—food-handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently, quickly, and under pressure.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain personal cleanliness.
- Ability to listen, read, and follow instructions and directions.
- Ability to operate cooking and food-preparation equipment.
- Ability to follow safety rules and guidelines throughout the kitchen and school.
- Proficiency in Google Suite or similar software.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.
Qualifications
- Some high school coursework required.
- Prior completion of food-safety coursework preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- May be required to work in excessive heat and cold associated with the kitchen environment.
