Responsibilities
- Works from verbal and written instructions from the supervisor.
- Selects torch tip, flux, and brazing alloy.
- Turns valves to start flow of gases, adjusts valves to obtain desired color and size of flame.
- Measures and cuts copper tubing.
- Assembles parts into fixture using template, applies flux, and hand brazes assembly together to provide leak-free seams.
- Cleans joints of workpieces.
- Applies foam insulation to exposed piping.
- Maintains critical dimensions, and structural and visual quality in conformance with diagrams, designs, or supervisor’s instructions.
- Tests for leaks at high pressure per test specifications (water or leak detection sniffer) and makes repairs as necessary.
- Assembles product using piping schematic.
- Responsible for quality of work and reports irregularities and damage to supervisor.
- Moves material to and from work station.
- Responsible for turning on and off gas and pilots.
- Connects hoses from torch to regulator valves and cylinders of oxygen and specified fuel gas and acetylene.
- Maintains accurate production and quality records.
- Performs other duties related to the occupation.
- Maintains clean, safe, and orderly work area.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Ability to maintain quality standards.
- More than basic knowledge of tools and processes; work may entail features of some complexity.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Requires the use of some judgement working with a minimum amount of direct work instruction.
- Requires special ability and practice with close limits of physical tolerance.
- Frequently handles 21-50 lbs. while standing.
- High degree of concentrated attention required.
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand piping and plumbing diagrams.
- Ability to follow instructions and to instruct other employees.
- Ability to work overtime when necessary.
- Exercise reasonable care for safety of others; considerable care necessary to prevent serious injury.
