Role Description

The Branch Manager for the George & Cynthia Mitchell Library oversees daily library operations, staff supervision, and public services at the branch. This full-time, on-site role based in The Woodlands, TX includes planning and coordinating programs, managing collections, and ensuring a welcoming, inclusive environment for all community members. The Branch Manager monitors budgets, resources, and facilities, and collaborates with the library and county departments to align branch services with system-wide goals. The role involves engaging with local partners, schools, and community organizations, promoting library services, and supporting outreach efforts. The Branch Manager also handles scheduling, performance coaching, and policy implementation to maintain high service standards and operational efficiency.

Education, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program
  • Two years' experience in the areas of supervision, reference, collection development and community engagement, branch manager experience is preferred
  • Ability to supervise and develop staff and set work priorities and plan strategically
  • Ability to work harmoniously with the public, including committees
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking
  • Knowledge and/or experience with Maker Equipment preferred
  • Ability to research and identify the community needs
  • Must pass background investigation
  • Ability to work in person, not remote

Primary Job Duties

  • Interview, train, supervise, schedule and evaluate staff for Branch
  • Implement and interpret library policies for library users and staff
  • Act as a liaison between library administration, other branches and branch staff
  • Develop and maintain a current collection to address diverse information needs
  • Develop and maintain rapport with the Friends of the Library Group and other community organizations
  • Identify library needs in the community; plan and provide services and programs to meet community needs
  • Establish and develop strategic partnerships with local organizations and businesses to benefit the library community
  • Research and identify grants and other sponsorship opportunities
  • Determine the needs of the branch to provide to administration yearly for the budget
  • Attend and participate in professional activities, conferences and committees
  • Supervise building maintenance needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
