Nature of Work
Under close supervision, performs library work of moderate difficulty in one of the branches of the library. The employee may be assigned to a specific area of focus: Teen, Spanish, Youth, or Rover. In addition to the focus area, all employees work the Circulation desk. This position has department-specific responsibility, and hours may vary (Tuesday–Saturday) depending on the needs of the Library District. This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate; salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.
Responsibilities
- Perform circulation desk duties including checking in and out books and other library materials.
- Issue library cards to patrons; handle cash and process transactions on a daily basis.
- Assist patrons with email accounts, electronic resources, electronic devices, and computers.
- Assist patrons with their needs; respond to complaints and update computer records on library materials as needed.
- Answer incoming calls; determine and undertake routing to the proper party; record and deliver messages.
- Perform teen and/or Spanish outreach duties, including coordinating special events for teens or Spanish speakers; be responsible for teen or Spanish services, programs, and/or activities as practiced in public libraries.
- Develop, conduct, and record virtual programming (e.g., story time, crafts, robotics, STEAM programming, and emerging technology).
- Perform youth duties, including coordination of special events for youth (e.g., Summer Reading Program, weeding, and library tours); be responsible for youth services, programs, and/or activities as practiced in public libraries.
- Perform rover duties, including working at the circulation desk; plan and/or assist with branch programs; provide coverage as needed in other divisions within the library branch.
- Design and maintain library brochures, calendars, and flyers, and deliver them to community locations or events.
- Maintain branch periodicals; assist with meeting room reservations and follow reservation procedures.
- Submit supply orders as needed.
- Shelve books and materials; weed assigned areas; clear book drops and returns.
- Assist patrons with self-check-out stations.
- Unpack and pack bins of books returned from, or to be returned to, other libraries.
- Organize and conduct library activities; collect statistics and enter information in the database.
- Maintain patron files and contact patrons; print reports and pull books for patrons.
- Assist with library services as practiced in public libraries.
- Promote public library services to the local community.
- Provide coverage in other divisions within the library branch; may be assigned to work in other library branches.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
