Boys Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach (Program Assistant)

Requirements

• A valid New York State teaching certificate in Physical Education (K-12) or another classroom subject area, a Professional Coaching Certificate, or eligibility for a Temporary Coaching License, valid and acceptable.
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates for coaches at the time of appointment.
• Completion of the following coursework prior to the first year of coaching:
  • IDentification and Reporting of Child Abuse
  • SAVEDASA
  • Concussion
• Enrollment in and completion of the Coaching Course Options - NFHS Coach Certification Program within the first two years of coaching.
• Fingerprinting and clearance for employment through the NYS Education Department before employment begins.
• A responsibility for the fingerprinting fee of $102.00.

Qualifications

• Years of overall coaching experience.
• Years of coaching experience in a specific sport.
• Years of coaching experience at various levels (Youth Organizations, Modified, Junior Varsity and/or Varsity).
• Performance in previous coaching positions.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and positively with students and parents.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a strong grade 7-12 athletic program.
• Demonstrated ability to oversee an in-season and off-season conditioning and strength program.
• Demonstrated ability to expand and develop an in-community feeder program.
• Demonstrated ability to develop a unified and committed coaching staff.
• Demonstrated ability to emphasize academics, sportsmanship, and chemical-free sports participation.
• Demonstrated ability to encourage multiple sport participation by team members.

Selection Criteria
